Andrew Wolf Award
12 Jul 2008
Bay Chamber Concerts has announced the 2008 recipient of the prestigious Andrew Wolf Chamber Music Award. The winner is Israeli pianist Inon Barnatan, who will perform in two concerts as part of Bay Chambers Concerts’ 48th Summer Music Festival. Barnatan will perform in “Debut” at the Strand Theatre on Wednesday, July 9 and “Showcase” at the Rockport Opera House on Thursday, July 10. Both concerts will begin at 8:00 p.m.
The Andrew Wolf Chamber Music Award was established in memory of Bay Chamber Concerts’ co-founder Andrew Wolf. A gifted pianist, Andrew Wolf served as artistic director of Bay Chamber for twenty-three years until his death in 1985. The Wolf Award recognizes the achievements of a dedicated pianist under the age of 40 who has made a significant contribution to chamber music. It carries a cash prize of $15,000 plus appearances at Bay Chamber Concerts.
“I am always excited about these award winners who have over the years represented the top level of pianists world-wide,” said artistic director Thomas Wolf. He added, “But this year I am especially excited. Inon has amazing gifts.”
Previous winners of the Wolf Award include Jeffrey Kahane, Lydia Artymiw, Christopher O'Riley, Wu Han, Anne-Marie McDermott, Jeremy Denk, Jonathan Biss, Natalie Zhu and Max Levinson. Each has gone on to have a highly successful career as a concert pianist.
